The Medicine Seller Arrives in Mononoke Stage Play Key Visual

A new key visual, the main cast, and the main staff have been revealed for Mononoke ~Bakeneko~, an upcoming stage play adaptation based on the Mononoke and Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales TV anime about a mysterious medicine peddler combatting dark forces in Edo era Japan.

 

The play is directed by Jun Yoriko and features a script by Aoi Tsukimori and production by Hitomi Akahori, Miyuki Mai, and Ai Kisugi. The main cast for the play includes:

 

  • Hirofumi Araki as The Medicine Seller.
  • Mei Okada as Tamaki.
  • Shunya Ohira and Wataru Ohshige as Yoshiyuki Sakai.
  • Yuki Mizuhara as Kayo.
  • Yūichi Itō as Yoshikuni Sakai.
  • Atsushi Shiramata as Odajima.
  • Yosuke Nishi as Katsuyama.
  • Takumi Endou as Sasaoka.
  • Wako Ito as Sato.
  • Takehisa Takayama as Yoshiaki Sakai.

Mononoke ~Bakeneko~ adapts the “Bake Neko” story arc from the Medicine Seller’s first appearance in the 2006 TV anime, Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales, which is described by Discotek Media as follows:

 

When a young samurai bride dies, the village druggist swears it’s the work of bakeneko (a catlike monster), which hunts each family member before revealing itself to horrified villagers, exposing a long forgotten scandal.

 

Mononoke ~Bake Neko~ will run from February 03 – 15, 2023 at the HIKOSEN Theater venue in Taito City, Tokyo, Japan.
