Japan Box Office: Rohan at the Louvre Live-Action Film Ranks 5th in 2nd Weekend

After making its third-place debut last week, the live-action feature film adaptation of Hirohiko Araki’s Rohan at the Louvre (Rohan au Louvre) manga slid to the fifth spot in its second weekend, with a record box office of 315 million yen (2.24 million USD) from May 29. From June 2 to 8, theatergoers will receive a bonus illustration card newly drawn by the manga author Hirohiko Araki. Then from June 9, screenings with sub-audio commentary by the cast and director will begin.

In its eighth weekend, the Detective Conan anime franchise’s 26th feature film, Detective Conan: Black Iron Submarine, stayed in fourth place as it did the previous weekend. Its total domestic gross reached 12.56 billion yen (90 million USD) on 8.864 million admissions.

IDOLiSH 7 LIVE 4bit BEYOND THE PERiOD — the first concert film from the male idol-themed multimedia franchise IDOLiSH7 — ranked eighth in its third weekend. The 93-minute film featuring stage performances by the franchise’s four male idol groups has earned 613 million yen (4.39 million USD).

 

In its 27th weekend, THE FIRST SLAM DUNK surprisingly came in at number nine and returned to the top ten again. The movie has earned 14.43 billion yen (108.70 million USD) at the domestic box office in six months since release, with ticket sales past the 10 million mark. Now it has become the 10th top-grossing Japanese film of all-time, surpassing Makoto Shinkai’s 2019 film Weathering With You (14.23 billion yen)

PSYCHO-PASS PROVIDENCE — the latest feature film from Production I.G’s PSYCHO-PASS anime franchise — then disappeared from the top 10 in its fourth weekend. As of May 29, its estimated total box office reached 443 million yen (3.16 million USD).
