In August of 2010, Gainax’s Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt began airing and immediately became an immediate sensation with anime fans. The raunchy humor, iconic design sense, and slickly animated action sequences all left a strong impression, but underlying all of that was an absolutely killer soundtrack by the then up-and-comer TeddyLoid. While that series was many Westerners’ introduction to the musician, TeddyLoid has since become a hugely successful, widely recognized musician. Besides contributing music to the viral animated short “ME!ME!ME!,” TeddyLoid has toured all around the world and amassed millions of hits on music streaming websites. We had the opportunity to talk with the musician about how he got his start, his favorite anime, and what he hopes people get out of his music.

Crunchyroll: Could you please introduce yourself for our audience?

TeddyLoid: I am TeddyLoid, a music producer and DJ Artist.

How did you get started in music? Were you always interested in it?

TeddyLoid: I started playing an electronic organ called the Electone when I was two years old, but I almost failed many times. However, I found a good teacher and began to enjoy music, and in elementary school I started to make music on the computer. Then in 2008, at the age of 18, I started the TeddyLoid project.

How would you describe your musical style?

TeddyLoid: It is heavily influenced by the French touch genre represented by Daft Punk and Justice.

What do you hope people come away from your music with?

TeddyLoid: I believe that music should be uniquely inspired by each person who hears it.
I would be happy to create music to accompany the moments of your life.

What are some of your favorite anime?

TeddyLoid: Recently, I like Laid-Back Camp and Chainsaw Man.

Do you have any particular anime or anime songs/soundtracks that inspire your music?

TeddyLoid: Ghost in the Shell

Do you have a favorite genre of anime?

TeddyLoid: I like science fiction.

What are some of your favorite anime opening or ending themes?

TeddyLoid: Recently, the Vaundy song at the end of the first episode of Chainsaw Man was great.

What do you think is so special about the connection between anime and music?

TeddyLoid: We are indispensable to each other. One without the other is no good.

If you could perform in any anime world, what would you choose?

TeddyLoid: I used to play MMOs very much in my childhood, so I would like to visit the world of SAO. LOL.

Do you have any last message you would like to send to your fans throughout the world?

TeddyLoid: Thank you for always loving my music and my work. I am always creating new works, so please look forward to them. Thank you for your continued support.
