The 46th Japan Academy Film Prize Announces Five Winners of Animation of the Year

 

 

A press conference for the 46th Japan Academy Film Prize was held in Tokyo today on January 23, announcing the winners of each category. Eligible for the prize are films released in Japan between January 1 and December 31, 2022. The winners of the best award in each category, including the Best Animation of the Year, will be announced at an awards ceremony to be held at the Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa, Tokyo, on March 10.

 

The five films selected for the Excellent Animation of the Year are listed below. One of these works will be chosen as the Best Animation of the Year.

 

“INU-OH” (Masaaki Yuasa / 98 minutes):

 

 

“Lonely Castle in the Mirror” (Keiichi Hara / 116 minutes)

 

 

“Suzume” (Makoto Shinkai / 122 minutes)

 

 

“One Piece Film Red” (Goro Taniguchi / 115 minutes)

 

 

“The First Slam Dunk” (Takehiko Inoue / 124 minutes)

 

 

Meanwhile, the live-action film adaptation of the Naoki Prize-winning author Mizuki Tsujimura’s Haken Anime! (Anime Supremacy!) novel are nominated in ten categories: 

 

  • Picture of the Year
  • Director of the Year (Kohei Yoshino)
  • Screenplay of the Year (Yosuke Masaike)
  • Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role (Riho Yoshioka)
  • Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role (Tasuku Emoto)
  • Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role (Machiko Ono)
  • Outstanding Achievement in Music (Yoshihiro Ike)
  • Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction (Satoshi Kanda)
  • Outstanding Achievement in Film Editing (Soichi Ueno)
  • Newcomer of the Year (Karin Ono)

In addition, Shin Ultraman, the reboot live-action film of Tsuburaya Productions’ classic tokusatsu TV series in the mid-1960s, is also nominated in eight categories.
