one piece film: red

One Piece Film Red finally made its way to North American theaters on Friday, November 4, and it ended up doing very well for itself over the weekend. The latest One Piece anime film managed to pull in US$9,475,251 in the United States, which was enough over its first three days to put it in second place in the box office behind Black Adam.

On opening day, which includes Thursday preview screenings, One Piece Film Red earned $4,826,670 across 2,367 theaters around the country. That total placed it in the top spot above Black Adam for Friday earnings, making for an impressive haul for this plucky and determined band of Straw Hats.

Previously, One Piece Film Red became Japan’s #1 film of 2022.

Crunchyroll describes the feature like so:

Uta —the most beloved singer in the world. Renowned for concealing her own identity when performing, her voice has come to be described as “otherworldly.” Now, for the first time ever, Uta will reveal herself to the world at a live concert. As the venue fills with all kinds of Uta fans—excited pirates, the Navy watching closely, and the Straw Hats led by Luffy who simply came to enjoy her sonorous performance—the voice that the whole world has been waiting for is about to resound. The story begins with the shocking fact that she is Shanks’ daughter
