The Super Mario Bros. Movie Jumps onto JP Box Office’s All-Time List at 81st

The Super Mario Bros. Movie

Mario may not be royalty in his own universe but at the Japanese box office, he is king, sitting on the top of the box office throne for a third week in a row, making billions of yen in the meantime (not to mention the billions of dollars worldwide!).

As of May 14, The Super Mario Bros. Movie has made a whopping 8.05 billion yen (US$59.98 million) in Japan on the back of 721,000 tickets sold. Thanks to its superstar-like gross, the film has already entered the highest-grossing box office list in Japan, joining the ranks at 81st place, just a little behind the Chris Pratt-led Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

Around the world, the boys in Red and Green have passed a massive US$1.2 billion and are now the 23rd highest-grossing movie of all time, passing Iron Man 3. It’ll be interesting to see where Mario lands after this mega-mushroom jump of his!
