Going into detail, in the Americas, that’s over 4 million copies sold, making Tears of the Kingdom the fastest-selling Nintendo Switch game and the fastest-selling Nintendo game in history for the Americas. In Japan, 2.24 million copies were sold in the first three days.
Worldwide, Tears of the Kingdom is the fastest-selling Zelda game in history and already the second-highest individual Zelda game of all time, or with remasters thrown into the mix, the fourth highest-selling game tied with Twilight Princess and Twilight Princess HD.
To put into perspective how big the launch was, it’s tied with Pokémon Scarlet and Violet with one of the biggest game launches of all time, which also exceeded 10 million copies in its first three days, which was also the biggest launch for a Pokémon game ever and close to the biggest launch of all-time.
For reference, Breath of the Wild has gone on to sell over 30 million copies on Nintendo Switch and Wii U since it was released in 2017. Tears of the Kingdom is already one-third of the way there!
