Kaoru Fukaya’s Twitter Manga Yomawari Neko Gets TV Anime Adaptation

Manga artist Kaoru Fukaya (The North East of Eden, She’s a steely woman!) announced on her official Twitter account today that a TV anime adaptation of her eight-panel manga series Yomawari Neko (The Night Watch Cat) is now in the works.

She wrote, “I have an announcement. ‘Yomawari Neko’ will be adapted into a TV anime! I was surprised too! It all thanks to everyone who has read the manga chapter by chapter here on Twitter and has supported me! Along with the people in charge at Kodansha and Wiz News, I’ll do my best to help in any way I can to make this a great work. I’ll let you know the details as soon as they are decided.”

The manga has been serialized on the author’s official twitter account since October 2015. KADOKAWA released its first tankobon volume in June 2016, then the first volume was re-released from Kodansha in March 2017. The latest ninth volume from Kodansha was released in Japan on November 21, 2022. The manga won the Short Work Prize of the 21st Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2017.

Synopsis:

“Yomawari Neko” is about Heizo Endo, a cat who patrols the streets at night looking for people in distress. When Endo senses someone’s “tearful smell,” he visits that person, but he only listens and does not solve the problem. However, when you read it, you will be strangely healed…
