Naoki Urasawa Draws The Beatles Members for Nippon Budokan Concert Documentary Film
Today, December 8 (in Japan), the anniversary of John Lennon’s death, a poster visual for the forthcoming documentary film Mr. Moonlight – 1966 The Beatles Budokan Concert – The Dream We All Saw is unveiled. It was newly drawn by acclaimed manga artist Naoki Urasawa (20th Century Boys, Monster, Pluto), who also appears in the film as one of the interviewees.
The four-member British rock band held their first (and last) concerts in Japan from June 30 to July 2, 1966. They were the first rock band held a concert at the prestigious martial arts arena. Centered on that concert, this documentary traces their influence on the Japanese music world, unraveling the history of Japanese popular music from the 1950s to the arrival of The Beatles. Urasawa, who was six years old when The Beatles visited Japan, talks about his memory with The Beatles at the time.
Mr. Moonlight – 1966 The Beatles Budokan Concert – The Dream We All Saw is set to be released in Japan on January 27, 2023.
