Magical Angel Creamy Mami Anime Gets 40th Anniversary J-POP Cover Album in July

 

As part of the 40th anniversary project for Pierrot’s Magical Angel Creamy Mami anime franchise in the mid-1980s, Japanese record company Tokuma Japan Communications will release a special album entitled “Magical Angel Creamy Mami 80’s J-POP Hits” in Japan on July 26, 2023.

As the first installment of Pierrot’s modern magical girl anime series, the Magical Angel Creamy Mami TV anime was aired for 52 episodes from July 1983 to June 1984. Thanks to its huge success, it was followed by four OVAs: Eien no Once More (1984), Lovely Serenade (1985), Long Goodbye (1985), and Song Special 2: Curtain Call (1986).

 

This year marks the 40th anniversary of Magical Angel Creamy Mami, and the anime’s characters, designed by Akemi Takada (Mobile Police Patlabor) still boasts strong popularity among people of all ages.

 

The “Magical Angel Creamy Mami 80’s J-POP Hits” album includes cover versions of J-POP hit songs from the mid-1980s when the anime was broadcast in Japan by the four original voice cast members: Takako Ohta (Yu Morisawa / Creamy Mami), Saeko Shimazu (Megumi Ayase), Kazuhiko Inoue (Shingo Tachibana), and Yu Mizushima (Toshio Otomo).
