My Hero Academia

Legendary Entertainment has been kicking around a live-action My Hero Academia film adaptation since 2018, and last year saw director Shinsuke Sato (Gantz, Kingdom) hop aboard. Now we finally have another update, with Variety confirming that the film is heading to Netflix and will feature a screenplay from Obi-wan Kenobi and Army of the Dead writer Joby Harold.

The live-action My Hero Academia movie is being produced by Mary Parent and Alex Garcia at Legendary Entertainment. Toho Co., Ltd will handle distribution of the Japanese theatrical release.

Based on the Shonen Jump manga by Kohei Horikoshi, the My Hero Academia TV anime is currently available to stream on Crunchyroll, which describes the story of the series as follows:

Izuku has dreamt of being a hero all his life—a lofty goal for anyone, but especially challenging for a kid with no superpowers. That’s right, in a world where eighty percent of the population has some kind of super-powered “quirk,” Izuku was unlucky enough to be born completely normal. But that’s not enough to stop him from enrolling in one of the world’s most prestigious hero academies.
