Ever since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Comiket has been limiting the number of people allowed to attend the world’s biggest anime and manga event well below its historic highs. Though that may be the case, Comic Market still boasts the biggest event of the worldwide anime calendar with its Winter 2022 event, which was held on December 30 and 31 being attended by around 180,000 people.

The 180,000 attendees were split over the two days, each having around 90,000 participants, the cap for the event with tickets sold in advance.

This is a 10,000-people increase from the summer event in August 2022, which recorded around 170,000 people over its two days. Comiket has not announced whether or not they will be increasing the number again for Comic Market 102 though they are aiming for 120,000 attendees “If relaxations of COVID regulations by authorities proceed.” The event staff noted that the 2023 events will not be returning to pre-pandemic levels in 2019, which saw an estimated 750,000 people attend over a four-day period.
