Kinnikuman Makes an Ultimate Muscle Comeback in New 40th Anniversary Anime
Kinnikuman is making his triumphant return to the ring in a brand new anime series for the 40th anniversary of the original anime. A teaser visual of the titular Kinnikuman holding his fist high in the sky was released for the announcement.

Named Ultimate Muscle in the west, the first adaptation of Yudetamago’s original manga premiered in April 1983 from Toei Animation and ran until October 1986. The manga spawned many anime adaptations, including the most well-known 2002 Ultimate Muscle: The Kinnikuman Legacy series. Discotek has licensed this version for a release this year.

The new series, which at the time of reporting does not have any more details, is part of wider 40th-anniversary celebrations that include the Super Kinnikuman Exhibition which opens on March 18 in Japan. The exhibition is said to hold “valuable materials” from the anime franchise.
