Ys X: Nordics Revealed Along with Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana

Ys X: Nordics

It’s been four years since the launch of Ys IX: Monstrum Nox, and now it’s time to turn our attention to the next numbered entry in Falcom’s long-running series. Ys X: Nordics has been revealed as the 35th anniversary title, and it’s due out on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch in Japan sometime in 2023.

YS X will feature a revamped battle system that includes “Cross Action,” which lets players fight using two modes depending on the situation. Solo Mode has players controlling one character with automatic attacks and partner support, while Combination Mode lets players control a series of actions simultaneously for both characters. This will also mark the first time a ship is controllable, as players use sea maps to explore vast oceans and take on naval battles against enemy ships.

The story for this one is set in the northern sea Obelia Bay and once again has Adol Christin as the protagonist. Check out some early screens:

That’s not the only Ys game on the way in the not-so-distant future. Falcom also announced Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana, which will give a high-def remastered coat of paint to Ys: The Oath in Felghana, which itself was a remake of Ys III: Wanderers from Ys. The updated take on the action-RPG is due out on Nintendo Switch in Japan in spring 2023.

Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana will feature fully-voiced event scenes, including Yuki Kaji as the voice for protagonist Adol Christin and narration by Banjou Ginga, as well as new “Refine Versions” of the character illustrations. If you prefer the way the art used to look, you’ll be able to switch between those and the Classic Versions from the PC and PSP releases.

Here’s a sample of the difference, with the Classic Version on top and the Refine Version below for each set:

Stay tuned for more on both games as we get closer to launch.
