Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Scherzo of Deep Night Coming to Crunchyroll

We’re now hours away from Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Scherzo of Deep Night, part of the Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- film series, hitting Crunchyroll. The movie will begin streaming there today, February 15, at 5:00 PM PST/8:00 PM EST, and you can watch it either subbed or dubbed.

Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Scherzo of Deep Night is not a brand-new movie. It originally came out in Japan in 2022, and in 2023 Crunchyroll and Aniplex of America teamed up to put it in theaters around the world.

It was made at A-1 Pictures, with Ayako Kono helming the project as director. Credit for character design goes to Kento Toya. The music was composed by Yuki Kajiura.

Crunchyroll gave this description for the plot of Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Scherzo of Deep Night:

The world’s first VRMMORPG (Sword Art Online) became a game of death. Over a month has passed since 10,000 users were trapped inside the game world. Asuna, who cleared the first floor of the floating iron castle of Aincrad, joined up with Kirito and continued her journey to reach the top floor. With the support of female Information Broker Argo, clearing the floors seemed to be progressing smoothly, but…

Conflict erupts between two major guilds who should be working together – the top player groups ALS (the Aincrad Liberation Squad) and DKB (the Dragon Knights Brigade). And meanwhile, behind the scenes exists a mysterious figure pulling the strings….

In a dangerous battle of death, there is an assault that differs from the threat, and it will involve Asuna and Kirito…!

This movie wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for the Sword Art Online: Progressive light novels by Reki Kawahara, which are available in America through Yen Press.
