The post on the SAO website confirmed that “under the guidance of medical institutions and government agencies,” Shimazaki has had to cancel his appearance at the celebrations. Furthermore, all staff and talent, which includes the other voice actors, will have to undergo PCR testing and a resulting negative test before they’re allowed to work the event.

Aoni Productions’ post explains that Shimazaki felt a sense of discomfort in his physical condition on November 1 which turned into a fever on November 2. After going to the doctor and undergoing a PCR test, it was confirmed later that day that the voice actor had come down with COVID-19. Shimazaki is currently recuperating at home.
