Studio Ponoc’s The Imaginary Hits Netflix July 5

A few months ago, we learned that Ghibli-alum studio Ponoc was teaming up with Netflix for a multi-picture exclusive streaming deal, starting with the studio’s recent film The Imaginary.

Now we’ve learned when that film is set to hit Netflix: July 5. In addition, the film will be screened at this year’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival and will play in enough theaters in the US to qualify for an Academy Award submission.

The film was released in Japan back in December.

The Imaginary is based on a children’s novel by A.F. Harrold, illustrated by Emily Gravett. Here’s the official description:
