The holiday season is coming to a close but Makoto Shinkai’s latest anime feature Suzume still has a few things to celebrate with the film hitting 30th place on the Japanese box office all-time charts. The film continued to climb up the charts over the New Year but still remained in second place to THE FIRST SLAM DUNK on the weekend charts.

As of January 4, Suzume has made 11.35 billion yen (US$82.97 million) at the Japanese box office on the back of 8.51 million tickets sold since it premiered on November 11. The Makoto Shinkai-directed film currently sits as the 30th highest-grossing film of all time in Japan between Star Wars: The Force Awakens at 29th on the all-time chart with 11.63 billion yen and Antarctica at 31st with 11 billion yen.

While these results look promising to bring Suzume up to Weathering With You’s box office total, Shinkai’s last anime feature, the non-holiday period of January will be Suzume’s greatest test to see if it can become Shinkai’s second highest-grossing film of all time.
