Shouji Gatou’s Full Metal Panic! Novel to Return with New Volume

KADOKAWA has announced that its light novel label Fantasia Bunko will publish a new volume of Shouji Gatou’s Full Metal Panic! series, which marks the 25th anniversary this year.

The series was published from the Fujimi Fantasia Bunko label for 23 volumes (full-length volumes: 12, spin-off: 2, short story collection: 9) from September 1998 to August 2011. It has been 12 years and nine months since the release of the final 12th volume of the full-length series.

According to the press release, the new volume takes place “the present day,” about 20 years after the climax of the original series. Sousuke and Kaname, who were high school students in the main story, are now grown adults and a married couple who share a life together. The story depicts the “daily life” of Sosuke and Kaname, who have become a family!

The July 2023 issue of KADOKAWA’s Dragon Magazine, which went on sale on May 19, features a sneak peek at the beginning of the new volume, and its September 2023 issue will publish the first chapter.

The novel’s English edition publisher J-Novel Club describes the story as:

Sagara Sousuke isn’t your typical high school student. He reads military enthusiast magazines; he responds to questions with “affirmative;” he brings grenades to school in his bag. Though everyone at school takes him for a hopeless military geek, Chidori Kaname thinks there might be something more to him. When their plane is hijacked in the middle of a field trip, Kaname’s instincts will prove correct: Sousuke is an elite, mech-piloting mercenary… and he’s here to protect her!
