Mamoru Oshii Leads the Jury at the 1st Niigata International Animation Film Festival

Leading Japanese anime director and beanie enthusiast Mamoru Oshii will be leading the jury as chairman for the first-ever Niigata International Animation Film Festival, which is hoping to highlight feature-length animation from around the world that may have not gotten the spotlight.

 

In total. 10 films from the submitted 21 works from 15 countries were selected for the festival with pieces from Japan, France, the United States, Algeria and more on show. A poster for the festival was released alongside the line-up today.

The lineup includes:

 

  • Vampire in the Garden The Movie (Japan, directed by Ryoutarou Makihara)
  • Khamsa – the Well of Oblivion (Algeria, directed by Vynom)
  • Oink (Netherlands, directed by Mascha Halberstad)
  • Little Nicolas Happy as can be (France, directed by Amandine Fredon and Benjamin Massoubre)
  • Even Mice Belong in Heaven (Czechia, France, Poland, Slovakia, directed by Denisa Grimmová & Jan Bubeníče)
  • Opal (Martinique, France, directed by Alan Bidard)
  • Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman (France, Canada, Netherlands, Luxembourg, directed by Pierre Földes)
  • Thee Wreckers Tetralogy (Netherlands, France, Japan, directed by Rosto)
  • Unicorn Wars (Spain, France, Japan, directed by Alberto Vázque)
  • When You Get To The Forest (United States, directed by Eric Power)

The first Niigata International Animation Film Festival will be held in Niigata City, Niigata prefecture from March 17 to 22, 2023.
