Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club to Release Official Spin-Off Novel from Dengeki Bunko
It’s not an April Fools’ Day joke this time. An official spin-off novel “Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club ~Flame Sword Princess~” is set to be released from KADOKAWA’s light novel imprint Dengeki Bunko on August 10, 2023. This is a collaboration project between the Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club anime franchise and Dengeki Bunko, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.

Flame Sword Princess is a fictional light novel series that appears in the story of the Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club anime. Its first appearance was the ninth episode of the anime’s first season, where Setsuna Yuki was holding the book in her hand. The series has become so popular that an anime adaptation was decided, and the 13th episode of the second season depicts the scene where the first episode of the Flame Sword Princess anime was actually broadcast.
As fans can remember, a live-action film adaptation of the novel starring Setsuna Yuki was announced as an April Fools’ Day joke on April 1, 2022.
The forthcoming spin-off novel is written by Yusaku Igarashi, known for his Haruka Nogizaka no Himitsu series, and the Love Live! franchise’s official illustrator Hiteru Chige provides illustrations.
The anime’s official website describes the novel’s story as:
“Flame Sword Princess” is the popular light novel series deeply loved by Setsuna Yuki. The members of the Nijigasaki High School Idol Club have decided to make a mini-film based on the novel. They begin filming the film featuring Flame Princess played by Setsuna as the main character, but Setsuna has a special feeling because she loves the character so much… “Let’s all do our best to convey Setsuna-chan’s feelings of love for her!”
