The power of an impending anime adaptation can never be denied, and the latest to see a further boost is the popular Kaiju No. 8 manga. The updated global numbers are in along with the Japanese release of volume 9, putting Naoya Matsumoto’s series at an impressive 11 million copies in circulation, 10 million of which are in Japan.

It was just back in November that the series announced the milestone of 8.88 million copies, which means the series has seen a circulation boost of over 2 million copies in just a matter of months.

Next up for the series is a TV anime adaptation, which has Production I.G as the animation studio with Kaiju supervision by Studio khara. The series is currently set to premiere sometime in 2024.

Kaiju No. 8 is serialized in Shueisha’s Shōnen Jump+ manga magazine, and an English language version is also available from Viz Media, who describe the story of the first volume as follows:

Kafka hopes to one day keep his pact with his childhood friend Mina to join the Japan Defense Force and fight by her side. But while she’s out neutralizing kaiju as Third Division captain, Kafka is stuck cleaning up the aftermath of her battles. When a sudden rule change makes Kafka eligible for the Defense Force, he decides to try out for the squad once more. There’s just one problem—he’s made the Defense Force’s neutralization list under the code name Kaiju No. 8.
