Jump into Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood This February

If you’ve been watching enviously from afar as Universal Studios Japan enjoys its own Super Nintendo World, good news—the U.S. is next!

Universal Studios Hollywood revealed today that the promised United States-based Super Nintendo World will open in two months. The attraction located in Los Angeles is the second of four planned iterations—the other two eventually coming to Singapore and Florida.

As with the version in Japan, visitors will get to roam a world inspired by the popular Super Mario Bros. franchise. Augmented-reality ride “Mario Kart: Koopa’s Challenge” will be present on opening day, renamed “Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge.” The eatery Toadstool Café and retail shop 1-UP Factory will also be open, and visitors can interact with blocks, coins, and more as they move through the park.

Check out the trailer, which also shows several of the game-inspired locations you’ll be able to tour as you explore:

Visitors to the park can purchase a Power-Up Band in one of six designs (seen in the video above). These wearable bands, which sync to the Universal Studios Hollywood app, will keep track of their progress on interactions throughout the park and unlock special meet-and-greets with costumed characters.

The park in Japan also includes “Yoshi’s Adventure,” which allows visitors to board Yoshi-shaped cars and take a leisurely ride through both the park itself and scenes inspired by the dino’s many adventures. There seems to be no sign of this ride yet at the Hollywood iteration—whether this means it will be opening later, entirely absent, or replaced with something else is as yet unknown.

Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood officially opens on February 17, 2023.
