Fall Out Boy Channels AKIRA in Promo for New Album So Much (For) Stardust

American rock band Fall Out Boy revealed a new motion poster for its upcoming album So Much (For) Stardust on Monday, and fans of a certain iconic anime film from the 1980s should spot some familiarities.

The motion poster, seemingly for a track off of the album titled “So Good Right Now,” homages Katsuhiro Otomo’s legendary movie AKIRA, and features a dog (whose been part of this album’s promo cycle since the beginning) in place of Kaneda, and the new Fall Out Boy logo in place of the iconic red motorbike.

The graphic is the latest in a series from artist visualdisco, who has teamed with the band to create a 1980s-inspired movie poster for each of the album’s 13 tracks. Fall Out Boy is releasing them in the leadup to the release of So Much (For) Stardust on March 24.

This isn’t the first collab Fall Out Boy has had with the anime industry. In 2019, the band’s lead singer Patrick Stump released a track with Japanese rock band MAN WITH A MISSION, titled “86 Missed Calls.”

Check out the music video for the band’s latest single “Heartbreak Feels So Good” below! We’ll be queuing up AKIRA on Crunchyroll while we wait for the new album to drop on Friday.
