Detective Conan Goes Big on 3D Billboard to Advertise 26th Anime Film

Detective Conan is going back to the movies this week in his 26th anime film, Detective Conan: Black Iron Submarine. To celebrate, the pint-sized detective is taking over UMEDA BS3D VISION for a personal greeting!

UMEDA BS3D VISION is a unique video billboard that went live this past January. In addition to more standard advertisements, the billboard—which is about a one-minute walk from Osaka-Umeda Station—runs 3D videos and trailers. Commuters can catch its mascot, Udon-chan, several times throughout the day.

Starting today, though, Conan Edogawa (in mascot costume form) will be popping in to say hello to everyone in Umeda and advertise his new film. After his greeting, pedestrians can stick around to watch clips from the upcoming film. At the end of the short, we also get a reminder that Volume 103 of Gosho Aoyama‘s original manga is also coming out.

There are two different cuts of the advertisement (1 minute 30 seconds and 2 minutes 30 seconds). Conan will appear on the billboard approximately five times an hour between 9am-8pm on weekdays and 10am-8pm on weekends and holidays. His stint on the billboard ends May 21.

The 26th feature film in the anime franchise, Detective Conan: Black Iron Submarine, is set to be released in Japan on April 14, 2023. Yuzuru Tachikawa, who helmed the 22nd film Detective Conan Zero the Enforcer in 2018, returns to the director’s chair with Takeharu Sakurai providing the screenplay as his sixth Conan film work.

Case Closed, also known as Detective Conan, airs weekly in Japan on Saturdays with Crunchyroll streaming the episodes soon after with 1074 currently released of the long-running series. Crunchyroll describes the TV anime as such:

The son of a world famous mystery writer, Shinichi Kudo, has achieved his own notoriety by assisting the local police as a student detective. He has always been able to solve the most difficult of criminal cases using his wits and power of reason.
