Billboard Japan: Chainsaw Man Opening Theme Becomes Most Popular Anime Song in First Half of 2023

 

Billboard Japan announced today that Kenshi Yonezu’s single “KICK BACK” (Chainsaw Man anime opening theme) won first place in its “Billboard JAPAN Hot Animation” anime song charts for the first half of 2023. The song also ranked second in its general song charts, “Billboard JAPAN HOT 100” behind Official HIGE DANdism’s “Subtitle,” and fifth in its “Billboard JAPAN Download Songs.”

 

“Billboard JAPAN Hot Animation” is a comprehensive anime song chart that includes anime theme songs and songs by anime voice actors extracted from “Billboard JAPAN Hot 100.”

“KICK BACK” was released digitally first on October 12, 2022, the premiere day of the TV anime in Japan, then its CD single followed on November 23. The song made its No.1 debut in the charts in its first week, then stayed on the top for 21 consecutive weeks. It surpassed the charts’ previous record of 16 consecutive weeks marked by LiSA’s “Gurenge” (Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba opening theme) .

 

Following in second was YOASOBI’s “Idol” (Oshi no Ko anime opening theme). “Idol” was released on April 12, 2023 as the two-member unit’s 19th digital single and has made its mark on charts since its debut. The CD single is scheduled to released in Japan on June 21.
