The story of Tengoku Stuggle -Strayside- is one that spans Heaven and Hell, as King Enma tasks his Hell Guardian daughter, Rin, with rounding up a group of prisoners who managed to escape from Hell. Together with Goemon Ishikawa and other trustworthy prisoners, it’s up to Rin to complete the mission while getting to the bottom of what former prisoner of Hell Shinobikuni is up to with a mysterious new pardoning app.
Shortly after the game’s launch, genre fans were quick to praise Rin and the other characters. A review on Siliconera calls it “one of those fantastic otome games where the whole cast is incredible.” It goes on to give a nod to the nuanced villains, as well, before closing it with a recommendation for those who want “a well-rounded world, a heroine who stands up for herself and has a personality, and a cast of heroes and villains who all feel interesting.”
