Skip and Loafer Doing YouTube Charity Stream to Help Earthquake Victims

2024 did not start off in a good way in Japan, since the country was hit with a 7.6 magnitude earthquake that especially affected the Noto Peninsula in the Ishikawa Prefecture. Now the people behind the anime Skip and Loafer are helping with a charity stream.

Specifically, they’re making all episodes of Skip and Loafer available on YouTube at no cost, between February 3 and 4, starting at midnight (Japanese time). If you watch, you’ll be helping out, because proceeds through distribution are going to be given to those in need in the Ishikawa Prefecture. Yes, by watching anime, you’re actually donating to a cause.

The anime committee for Skip and Loafer explained why they were doing this, saying:

“We would like to offer our deepest prayers for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives in the 2020 Noto Peninsula Earthquake that occurred on January 1, 2024, and express our deepest sympathies to those affected. Everyone involved in the anime is saddened to learn that Suzu City, Ishikawa Prefecture, which is the model for the hometown of Mitsumi, the main character of this work, has suffered severe damage, and we hope that everyone can return to a peaceful life as soon as possible. We pray for the earliest possible recovery of the disaster-stricken areas and for everyone’s good health.”

Keina Suda, who did the Skip and Loafer theme song “Mellow,” helped plug the event online, commenting, “I really like the scenery of Ishikawa Prefecture depicted in the anime. I hope it warms your heart!”

Yuka Terasaki, the voice of Mika Egashira, chimed in, “I would like you to watch episode 9 ‘Torotro Runrun’ a story about Mitsumi returning to her hometown, Ishikawa Prefecture. It’s my favorite episode too.”
