SAND LAND Anime Film Reveals Main Poster Visual, Five Additional Voice Actors
The official website for the upcoming anime film adaptation of Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama‘s SAND LAND manga released a main poster visual today, as well as five additional voice cast members for the film.

The tagline reads: “Do you think it’s acceptable to be more evil than the devil?”
The five newly announced voice cast members include:
- Satan: Akio Otsuka (Batou in Ghost in the Shell)
- The King of Sand Land: Chafurin (Juzo Megure in Case Closed)
- The Swimmers’ Papa: Tomokazu Sugita (Gintoki Sakata in Gintama)
- Pike: Koji Yusa (Sanosuke Harada in Hakuoki ~Demon of the Fleeting Blossom~)
- Shark: Hiroyuki Yoshino (Franky Franklin in SPY x FAMILY)
- Guppy: Masafumi Kobatake (Imura in Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out!)
Vetran voice actor Akio Otsuka is cast as Satan, the father of the protagonist Beelzebub played by Mutsumi Tamura (Hiro Amanokawa in Digimon Ghost Game) gave a comment to his new casting. “First of all, I am happy to have been involved in this wonderful work. This is Satan, Satan! It is not often that I get to play a role with such prestige,” said Otsuka. “The protagonist is his son, Beelzebub. And how does Beelzebub see Satan…? The king of demons who has been through more than he could ever imagine and still reigns before his eyes. As a voice actor, my job is not to intimidate or threaten but to let the audience feel Satan’s awesomeness, which is not in the scenario, for no reason at all, somehow. If it works, I think I can accomplish my mission. However, this is quite difficult. Many people may think that playing with a confident voice is enough, but if so, there is no need for professional voice actors. What kind of adventure will unfold this time, with all the skilled craftsmen? Please take a good look at the finished work! “

The film is set to be released in Japan on August 18, 2023. Akira Toriyama’s SAND LAND manga was published in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine between May and August 2000, eventually collected in a single volume that made its way over in English from VIZ Media in 2003. VIZ Media describes the story:
In the far future, war has destroyed the entire Earth, leaving only a barren wasteland where the supply of water is controlled by the greedy king. In search of a long-lost lake, Sheriff Rao asked the king of the demons for help…and got the king’s son, Beelzebub, and his assistant, Thief. Together the unlikely trio sets off across the desert, facing dragons, bandits and the deadliest foe of all… the King’s army itself!
