Precure Franchise’s First Stage Play Unveils Main Cast Visuals in Costumes

The official website for Dancing☆Star Precure The Stage — the first stage play from Toei Animation’s long-running Precure franchise — revealed its six main cast members in their character costumes today.

The franchise has offered character musical shows featuring kigurumi (suit) actors since its launch in 2004, but this is the first stage play performed by non-kigurumi actors and also the first time that all members in a Precure team are male. The website writes: “This time, it is high school boys who transform into Precure! With the original story that depicts their daily life and mission as Precure, a unique stage production, and the powerful dance and action that unfolds before your eyes, we will bring you an exciting new world of Precure!”

Yo Hosaka, the leader of the theater unit Kusou Kumikyoku and who has worked on numerous 2.5-dimensional stage plays, such as Ace Attorney and Lycoris Recoil, serves as director on his own script. “I am very grateful to be involved in Precure, which has a long history and has been loved by many people, and at the same time, I feel the responsibility to create an original story of the stage version about high school boy Precures,” Hosaka said. “While respecting the gentle worldview and philosophy that underlies the series, I will do my utmost to show new possibilities for as a work.”
