One Piece Film Red Theme Song Tops Japan’s Anime Song Karaoke Ranking in First Half of 2023

 

 

Today on June 15, Nagoya-based company XING announced the rankings for the most popular karaoke songs based on the number of times sung on its online karaoke service “JOYSOUND” and “UGA2” series between January 1 and June 5, 2023. JOYSOUND started its service in 1992 and has become one of the major karaoke brands in Japan, offering the karaoke industry’s largest lineup of more than 340,000 songs.

The most sung anime theme song in the first half of 2023 was “New Genesis (UTA from One Piece Film Red)” performed by Ado, the theme song for the 2022 anime film One Piece Film Red. The song was also ranked fourth in the overall ranking. Thanks to the success of the One Piece Film Red songs, also including “I’m Invincible” and “Backlight,” Ado was chosen as the most popular artist of the period.

 

Coming in second was “A Cruel Angel’s Thesis,” the opening theme song for the Neon Genesis Evangleion TV anime sung by Yoko Takahashi. Even 28 years after its release, the song continues to be immensely popular and has been sung at karaoke.

 

Meanwhile, the most popular anime song released this year, 2023, in karaoke was “Idol” by YOASOBI, the opening theme for the TV anime Oshi no Ko.
