Natsume Yujin-cho Manga Launches 20th Anniversary Project

 

Yuki Midorikawa’s supernatural mystery shojo manga Natsume Yujin-cho will finally celebrate its 20th anniversary in Hakusensha’s LaLaDX magazine’s July 2023 issue, set to release in Japan on June 5. The publisher has prepared a celebration plan to express their gratitude to readers.

 

The manga started serialization in July 2003 and has released 29 volumes in Japan so far. As of January 2022, its total domestic circulation exceeded 16 million copies. The TV anime adaptation has aired for six seasons since 2008, and a feature film Natsume Yujin-cho the Movie: Ephemeral Bond was released in Japanese theaters on September 29, 2018.

The publisher held an “Episode Popularity Poll” from January 24 to March 10, 2023. The results of the poll will finally be announced in LaLa magazine’s July issue scheduled to release on May 24. The issue will also come with an acrylic stand featuring the 20th anniversary illustration.

 

 

The July 2023 issue of LaLaDX will include:

  • Commemorative comments by Yuki Midorikawa
  • Congratulatory illustrations and comments by the LaLa authors
  • Congratulatory comments and interviews with Hiroshi Kamiya (who voices Takashi Natsume) and Kazuhiko Inoue (who voices Nyanko-sensei/Madara) from the anime series

In addition, “Natsume Yujin-cho 20th Anniversary Café” will open at Hakusensha My Charaful Cafe in Tokyo from April 27 to July 2, 2023. The café will offer a variety of goods and a luxurious collaboration menu featuring illustrations by Midorikawa as well as beautiful visuals from the past.
