The first OVA to commemorate the franchise’s sixth anniversary, Osomatsu-san ~Hipipo-Zoku to Kagayaku Kajitsu~ (Mr. Osomatsu: The Hipipo Tribe and the Glistening Fruit) was screened in Japanese theaters in July 2022, with the Blu-ray and DVD release in November.

“Thank you for your patience. This is ‘Tama-den’!” said director Hikaru Yamaguchi. “We have decided to hold a takoyaki party at the Matsuno’s house. It is sure to be a fun party, so please join us with your father, mother, brother, sister, grandfather, grandmother, and neighbors!”

Screenplay writer Shu Matsubara also said, “Thank you for your patience. We may have kept you waiting too long. This time, the story almost never leaves the house. No guest characters. We’re going to seriously stick to just the takoyaki party and the sleepover. Kujira-san, who plays the role of Matsuyo, complimented me on ‘What’s going on in your head?’ Isn’t this the essence of Osomatsu-san? Please enjoy!”

In a newly drawn teaser visual by the anime character designer Eiji Abiko, the Matsuno sextuplets are happily preparing for a takoyaki party.

The first three seasons of Mr. Osomatsu, as well as the movie, are available to stream on Crunchyroll, who describes the series:

Mr. Osomatsu is based off of the gag manga series Osomatsu-kun by Fujio Akatsuka, and ran from 1962 to 1969. The series features a set of sextuplets, the Matsuno brothers, with Osomatsu being the oldest brother and leader of the group.
