Mizu Sahara’s Okashiratsuki. Romance Manga Gets Live-Action Film Adaptation

Mizu Sahara’s popular romance manga Okashiratsuki. (with the title in Japanese literally meaning “A fish served whole with head and tail”) will be adapted into a live-action film, scheduled to release in theaters in 2023.

Sahara won the Honorable Mention award in the Afternoon Shiki Award 2001 Winter Contest with ROBOT, then made her serialization work debut in 2004 with Hoshinokoe in Kodansha’s Afternoon. Okashiratsuki. will be her second work to be adapted into live-action, following My Girl, whose live-action TV drama adaptation aired in Japan in 2009.

Okashiratsuki. was serialized in Coamix’s Monthly Zenon from 2018 to 2020, then compiled in four volumes, printing 150,000 copies so far. The story begins with an encounter between a boy, Utsumi Kaisei, who has been bullied because he has a pig-like tail, and a girl, Hiyama Nachi, who tries to be close to him. It depicts a sad and endearing decade of love, in which the two are wounded and yet communicate with each other.
