Nezumikozo Jirokichi: A Manga Film Dedicated to Sadao Yamanaka

After 14 years, famed 82-year-old anime director Rintaro, who is best known as the director of Metropolis and Galaxy Express 999, has returned to the director’s chair for a brand new “manga film” based on the story of filmmaker Sadao Yamanaka making the Nezumikozo Jirokichi: Edo no Maki silent film in 1933. The first image from the anime short was released featuring the filmmaker in animated form which can be seen above.

Named Nezumikozo Jirokichi: A Manga Film Dedicated to Sadao Yamanaka, the short silent anime film is 25 minutes long and will see its premiere at the 1st Niigata International Animation Film Festival on March 20. The script of the film was based on Yamanaka’s original script and notes with animated scenes based on the film and the production process. The only sound for the film will be music by Toshiyuki Honda and narration from Mami Koyama (Kei in Akira).
