Manga Artist Gosaku Outa Passes Away at 74 Due to COVID-19

 

 

The official Twitter for Shogakukan’s manga magazine Televi-Kun announced on January 2 that manga artist Gosaku Outa passed away on December 12, 2022. He was 74.

 

According to Sponichi, his family said that he was receiving medical treatment at a facility in Gunma Prefecture. At the end of November, he was rushed to the emergency room after being tested positive for COVID-19. He developed pneumonia and did not return home. The funeral and farewell ceremony were already held with his next of kin.

 

After working as an assistant to Shotaro Ishinomori, he made his debut in 1969 with a shoujo manga Boyfriend Yai! (under the name of Junichiro Yamagami). He was well known for his comicaliztion works of the Mazinger anime series in the 1970s, such as Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger, and UFO Robot Grendizer. Those works were highly regarded as legendary works among some fans because of his own unique originality that differed from the anime. He also served as the original story creator for the robot anime series in 1976-1977, Groizer X.
