Locke the Superman

Yuki Hijiri is a renowned creator known for the Locke the Superman manga, as well as character and mechanical design work for anime series ranging from Voltes V to Fighting General Daimos. Sadly, the official Twitter account for Shonengahosha’s Young King Ours magazine confirmed that Hijiri passed away at the age of 72.

According to the announcement, Hijiri passed due to pneumonia on October 30.

After Locke the Superman launched in 1967, the series eventually made its commercial magazine debut in Monthly Out in 1977 before running in Shonen King from 1979 until the magazine’s final issue in 1988. From there, Locke appeared in other magazines in various forms, and was also adapted into an anime film in 1984. The Locke the Superman: Chaos Bringer manga followed in the pages of Young King Ours in 2019.

Yuki Hijiri’s family is holding a private funeral, and a memorial event is planned for a later date. Our thoughts go out to the family, friends and colleagues that surrounded him throughout his life.
