Live-Action Insomniacs After School News Locks in Premiere Date, More Cast

More info arrived recently for the live-action Insomniacs After School film, based on the manga by Makoto Ojiro. In addition to a handful of new cast members, the latest news revealed that the film is set to premiere in Japan on June 23.

As for the new cast additions, from left to right on the top and bottom rows in the image below we have:

 

  • Haruka Kudo as Saya Magari
  • Yoichiro Saito as Isaki’s Father
  • Tomoko Tabata as Isaki’s childhood friend’s mother
  • Denden as the Historical Archive Director
  • MEGUMI as Isaki’s Mother
  • Masato Hagiwara as Ganta’s Father

 

 

The film is directed by Chihiro Ikeda (Startup Girls) on his own screenplay co-written with Izumi Takahashi (Tokyo Revengers). Filming took place in Nanao City, Ishikawa Prefecture, the setting of the original manga, for a month. Nana Mori (Hina Amano in Weathering With You) is in the lead as Isaki Magari alongside Daiken Okudaira (Shuhei in MOTHER) as Ganta Nakami.

The manga has been serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Big Comic Spirits since 2019 and 11 tankobon volumes have been released in Japan so far. The story is set in Nanao City, Ishikawa Prefecture. Ganta, a high school boy suffering from insomnia, meets Isaki, who has the same problem. In the school’s observatory, which is now used as a storage room, their mysterious relationship begins to share a fleeting sleep after school and a secret…

 

The manga’s TV anime adaptation has also been in the works for a premiere in 2023.
