It’s no secret that Enako, Japan’s top cosplayer, makes a lot of money through her career choice, publicly stating multiple times that she makes over 100 million yen (US$768,000) through cosplaying and related activities. That number was smashed this week though when her manager revealed that Enako actually makes over 200 million yen (US$1.53 million)!

During the “Uramayo! Popular celebrities (secret) one after another reveal their true face, New Year’s 2-hour Special!” variety show on January 2, Enako and her manager gave the latest goss on the cosplayer turned idol turned model.

The panelists bluntly asked Enako how she spends her 100 million yen, with famous Japanese stage performer Tomio Umezawa saying that he regularly spends that much on costumes for his theater company. Enako responded that, sure, she spends money on costumes but she actually has no idea how much is in her bank account because her manager holds her passbook.

Enako’s manager continues on, saying that he “takes care of her like a mother so that she doesn’t forget to pay his taxes and such.”

The presenter of the show retorts by asking the manager if thinks he could get away with taking 100 million yen a month out of the account without Enako noticing at all. The manager responded by saying “no, of course not” because Enako actually makes 200 million yen per year in revenue but it is split 50/50 with her talent agency, leaving a paper trail.

Other panelists on the show agreed that Enako’s manager is trustworthy because he is a “transparent person.”
