fripSide Postpones 20th Anniversary Performance Due to Singer Yoshino Nanjo Contracting COVID-19
The official website for Japanese synth-pop band fripSide announced tonight that their 20th-anniversary concert this weekend has been postponed due to former member Yoshino Nanjo coming down with COVID-19. While she’s a former member, the management judged that the event could not go on without her, as she was the lead singer for over a decade.

fripSide was founded in 2002 with composer Sat and singer Nao as an indie band. After breaking out of the indie scene, Nao graduated from the group in 2009, and the lead vocalist role was given to Yoshino Nanjo. Their first single was the now iconic “Only My Railgun” for the A Certain Scientific Railgun TV anime. Nanjo retired from the duo in 2022 and the mantle was passed to Mao Uesugi and Hisayo Abe.
In the news post on fripSide’s website, the website noted that Nanjo was feeling unwell enough to be checked at a hospital, testing positive for COVID-19. Despite the rescheduling of the disease to the same as the usual fllu, Nanjo’s agency, in conjunction with her doctors, decided that she had to withdraw from the anniversary event on June 17 because she won’t be able to recover in time for it. Everyone involved decided to postpone the event because “it could not be held without her.”
Details on the new date will be announced in the future.

Besides being the former singer for fripSide, Yoshino Nanjo is also an accomplished voice actor, best known for voicing Eli Ayase in Love Live! School Idol Project, Shirabe Tsukuyomi in Symphogear and Akiho Senomiya in the Robotics;Notes anime and games.
