Another Story: How Fist of the North Star Came to Be is an upcoming documentary that’s currently listed on the official website of NHK World. According to the listing, the documentary about Tetsuo Hara and Buronson’s classic Fist of the North Star manga will air on the NHK World channel on Friday at 11:10pm Eastern Time, followed by additional airings on Saturday at 6:10am, 11:10am and 6:10pm.

The Fist of the North Star manga ran in the pages of Shueisha’s Shonen Jump magazine from 1983 to 1988, inspiring a 152-episode TV anime adaptation from 1984 to 1988, followed by a film in 1986, a live-action film in 1995 and an OVA in 2003.

Here’s how NHK World describes the documentary:

“Fist of the North Star” is the gold standard of action manga and remains popular over 30 years since it ended. This is the dramatic story of how three men came together to create a masterpiece.

VIZ Media has been releasing the Fist of the North Star manga in deluxe editions, describing the series like so:

One day, a wanderer appears out of the wasteland to bring justice to the guilty and hope to the people—a warrior named Ken, a man who bears seven scars upon his chest and holds the secret of a mysterious martial art known as Hokuto Shinken, the Divine Fist of the North Star!
