Figure Skating Manga ‘Medalist’ Goes for Gold with TV Anime Announcement

After taking home the top prize in last year’s Shogakukan Manga Award and making several other top lists, it figures that Ikada Tsuruma’s acclaimed Medalist manga would skate its way onto the small screen as an anime series in no time. Well, that day is finally here with a few extra tricks thrown in, including a teaser visual, a commemorative illustration by Tsuruma and the main production staff.

Yasuka Yamamoto, whose stacked resume includes Servant x Service, Noblesse, The tale of outcasts and Hinomaru Sumo, is directing the anime at studio ENGI, alongside Jukki Hanada (Sound! Euphonium) as series composer and Chinatsu Kameyama (In Another World With My Smartphone 2). Additional details about the production, such as cast and release date, are yet to be revealed.

 

Kodansha USA, which publishes the manga’s official English version, describes the series as such:

 

Tsukasa, whose dreams were crushed. Inori, left to fend for herself. These two share a dream…and their tenacity may be the only thing that sees them through. Their destination? The ice…on the world’s stage!
