Director Tatsuki Teases Hentatsu New Year’s Eve Special Short Anime
Tatsuki, the indie anime director of such series as Kemurikusa and Season 1 of Kemono Friends, has revealed that another Hentatsu New Year’s Special will broadcast on Japanese TV to ring in the new year. The two minute animation will broadcast on TOKYO MX, Gunma TV, Tochigi TV, and BS11 from 11:58pm on December 31st, 2022, until 12:00am on January 1st, 2023.
Originally distributed on the web in 2018 and then broadcast on Japanese TV in 2020, Hentatsu is a short form anime series that follows the adventures of an oni-girl and a cat-girl palling around a seemingly abandoned Nakano Broadway and enjoying tea and irreverant conversation with one another.

The Hentatsu New Year’s Special was announced via Tatsuki’s Twitter feed with an image of the cat-girl (CV: Mai Kadowaki) and the oni-girl (CV: Kaoru Takasugi) getting comfy beneath a kotatsu. In the Tweet, Tatsuki claims that he doesn’t have any particular special announcements planned, just a short animation to serve as a laidback companion for New Year’s Eve, but since a similar announcement was included with the previous Hentatsu New Year’s Special in 2022, we’ll just have to wait and see…
