Code Geass Mahjong Soul Collab Has Takahiro Sakurai Back as Suzaku

Code Geass x Mahjong Soul

Despite losing a number of voice roles due to “various circumstances” after his reported extramarital affair and the fallout that followed, voice actor Takahiro Sakurai is back in one of his previous roles thanks to a new collaboration between the Code Geass anime and browser/mobile game Mahjong Soul. As revealed via the official English Twitter account for Cat Food Studio and Yostar’s free-to-play game, Sakurai will reprise his role as Suzaku Kururugi during the event.

Fans of the Code Geass anime can look forward to the collaboration being available in both the Japanese and English versions of Mahjong Soul.

The event period is scheduled for April 25 to May 16, and also has Jun Fukuyama back as Lelouch Lamperouge among others.

Sakurai’s replacement in various voice roles, including the role of Haruaki Kurama in AYAKA, came after Sakurai, who is best known as the voice of Reigen in Mob Psycho 100, was reported to have been engaged in a 10-year extramarital affair with a writer from his radio show by Weekly Bunshun in October. Sakurai’s agency confirmed the report and apologized for the behavior of the voice actor, who ended the radio show the day after the report was released.

The Code Geass anime is currently available to stream on Crunchyroll, which describes the series like so:

The year is 2017 of the Imperial calendar and parts of the world are under the control of the Holy Britannian Empire. Lelouch Lamperouge, an exiled Britannian prince, encounters a strange girl known as C.C., who gifts him with a great and terrible power. The Geass. With this powerful ability, Lelouch can get anyone to do as he wills. But the power of Geass: is it a blessing…or a curse?
