BARTENDER Glass of God will be directed by Ryoichi Kuraya (Farming Life in Another World) at Liber INC. with series composition written by Mariko Kunisawa (Ascendance of a Bookworm) and character designs drawn by Yoichi Ueda (Gangsta.). Suntory Holdings Limited, a Japanese liquor company that has been in business for 100 years, will be joining the project in the role of Production Cooperation, supervising the liquor in the series and supporting the series with collaborations.

The staff commented on today’s reveal:

Ryoichi Kuraya (Director) –

This is a drama of a bartender and his customers on the other side of the bar’s door, separated from the hustle and bustle of the city. I will do my best to create anime that inspires you to go to the bar and grab a drink.

Mariko Kunisawa (Series Composer) –

Cocktails made with the same recipe can taste different if made by different people.
That’s where the bartender’s skills shine.
It’s a story of a bartender and his customers that reminds you of a  great cocktail, sometimes sweet, sometimes bitter, with a clean aftertaste.
Grownups can enjoy this anime as well, so please watch it with a favorite drink in your hand

Yoichi Ueda (Character Designer/Chief Animation Director) –

I’m Yoichi Ueda, and I’ll be in charge of the character design for this show.
I didn’t know about the original manga, the previous anime and drama series when I was invited to join this project.
I always loved drinking at a quiet bar, listening to the bartender talk. So when I read the original manga, I felt I was a good fit, so I decided to take this on.
I’m hoping to enjoy the process without straining myself too much.
Please look forward to the series

Ueda also released and commented on Sasakura’s new character design –

I designed Ryu Sasakura to be modern, simple, without too much shadow. With that said, I tried to keep the image of the original, incorporating his facial expressions from the manga.
Please look forward to the new Sasakura in motion!

The original Bartender manga ran from 2004 through to 2012 in Super Jump and Grand Jump and was collected into 21 volumes. 3.6 million copies of the manga have been printed (physically) and sold (digitally) as of April 2023.

The first 11-episode TV anime adaptation of Bartender directed by Masaki Watanabe at Palm Studio aired in Fall 2006. Shout! Factory and Anime Limited, who partnered to release the original anime digitally and physically in North America in 2020, describe the series as such:

Situated in the Ginza district of Tokyo is the Eden Hall, a quiet bar that few people manage to come across. It is run by the legendary bartender Ryu Sasakura, a genius at mixing the right drink for the right customer. Throughout his period at Eden Hall, customers from all walks of life, carrying all sorts of burdens, arrive for a godly glass at the Hall and a kind word with Ryu, both of which assist in clearing their problems up and reviving them for another go at life.
