The World’s First OVA DALLOS Gets Blu-ray Release in March 2023

 

 

As part of the 40th anniversary project of Bandai Namco Film Works’ EMOTION label, the Blu-ray of the world’s first OVA (Original Video Animation) series, DALLOS, is set to be released on March 24, 2023.

 

The second volume of the sci-fi series written/directed by Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in The Shell) was released in Japan on December 21, 1983, and the first volume written/directed by Hisayuki Toriumi (Science Ninja Team Gatchaman) followed on January 28, 1984 (The second volume was released first). Then, the first chapter of the third episode written/directed by Oshii was released on April 29, 1984, and the second chapter written by Oshii and co-directed by him and Toriumi followed on July 5 of the year.

  • Episode 3: “Raising in the Sea of Nostalgia, Act I”
  • Episode 4: “Raising in the Sea of Nostalgia, Act II”

 

After about 40 years since its release, an HD remastered version is produced under the supervision of Oshii. The Blu-ray includes the planning materials for presentation, the pilot film that was included as a bonus content for the re-edited compilation video “DALLOS Special” (August 1985 release), the documentary movie “Remember DALLOS 1983-2003”,  the final commemorative edition pamphlet, and more. The price for “DALLOS: EMOTION 40th Anniversary Edition” is 6,380 yen (45.45 USD).

 

 

 

 

Synopsis:

 

In the end of the 21st century, the Earth’s population growth, resource depletion, and other problems were all resolved with the implementation of the lunar frontier project. The mineral resources sent from the moon revitalized the earth and promised prosperity to the people. However, behind the scenes, the Lunarians, the pioneers of the Moon, had to make sacrifices. Half a century has passed since the Earth administration stripped the pioneers of their freedom. Now, the young Lunarians raise the smoke of revolution in search of true freedom–.
