It’s no secret that Oshi no Ko is full of wild twists and turns, including the anime’s latest opening theme song. Following the release of an English-language version of “Idol” by YOASOBI last month, the song has officially made music history by being the first song originally in Japanese to reach No.1 on the Billboard Global (excluding the United States) chart.

The single is now sitting in the top ten on the regular Billboard Global 200 chart, while also reaching seven weeks running at No.1 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100.

According to Billboard, the charts, which started in September 2020, rank songs based on streaming and sales activity culled from more than 200 territories around the world, as compiled by Luminate. “Idol” shot up from No.6 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. Chart after a 14% increase in streams (45.7 million) and 39% increase in sales (24,000) over the past week.
