Under Ninja TV Anime Celebrates Ninja Day with New Visual, Staff Announcements

Since 2018, Kengo Hanazawa‘s seinen manga series Under Ninja has been sneaking through the pages of Weekly Young Magazine. We’ve known it’s been stealthing its way toward a TV anime adaptation, but today we get our first look at what’s to come… and when!

The announcement comes on an especially fortuitous day—February 22 is “Ninja Day” in Japan. Check out the new visual below.

Not long ago, we got a manga-centric teaser, visualizing the sort of thing we might be able to expect:

So far, the new series is being staffed by some serious heavy-hitters in the anime industry. It will be made at Tezuka Productions, directed by Satoshi Kuwabara (Black Jack). Keiichiro Ochi (The Quintessential QuintupletsThe Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten) will write the screenplay and handle series composition, and Noboteru Yuki (The Vision of EscaflowneKids on the Slope) is in charge of character designs.

Kodansha’s Weekly Young Magazine has been serializing the series since July 2018. DENPA publishes Under Ninja‘s official English version and describes the series as such:

After World War II, Allied Command in Japan developed a new agency to help manage terrorism and violence within the Pacific region. The agency was staffed with ninja and they were initially tasked to handle domestic affairs. Eventually that program grew to its current form, managing 20,000 ninja across a range of domestic and international affairs. One of those ninja happens to be Kudo. The seventeen-year-old high school loser is now poised to be the next line of defense against a potential surge in foreign assassins invading Tokyo.

Under Ninja is scheduled to debut in October 2023.
