Tomo-chan Is a Girl! Dub Comes Out Same Day as Anime’s Debut
Usually dub fans have to wait longer to watch an anime, but that isn’t going to be the case with Tomo-chan Is a Girl! Crunchyroll will be offering both dubbed and subbed versions the same day the anime debuts in Japan, so mark your calendars for January 4. Crunchyroll also released info on the dub cast and crew.
For the English version, Lexi Nieto plays Tomo Aizawa, Ricco Fajardo plays Junichiro Kubota, Jad Saxton plays Misuzu Gundo, Sally Amaki plays Carol Olston, Christopher Llewyn Ramirez plays Tatsumi Tanabe, and Ciarán Strange as Kosuke Misaki.
Sally Amaki gets double the work because she plays Carol Olston in the Japanese version as well.
As for the crew, well-known anime voice actress and director Caitlin Glass is directing the anime dub.
The anime is being made at Lay-duce, with Hitoshi Namba helming the project as the director. The head writer is Megumi Shimizu, who is known from working on Banished From The Heroes’ Party and My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! Meanwhile, the music is being composed by Masaru Yokoyama of Horimiya, Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, and Fruits Basket (the 2019 version).
The original manga by Fumita Yanagida — known as Tomo-chan wa Onna no Ko! in Japanese — is published in America by Seven Seas Entertainment. Seven Seas gave this description for its plot:
“Boyish high school girl Tomo Aizawa finally manages to tell her childhood friend Jun that she’s got a crush on him. Unfortunately, her confession goes right over his head—he didn’t even realize she was a girl until middle school, and even now, Jun still thinks of her as a bro! How can Tomo-chan possibly convince him otherwise and win Jun’s heart?”
The manga series consists of eight volumes and concluded back in 2019. The series is also an award-winner.
