Thieves Get Cozy in Lupin the Third vs. Cat’s Eye Art by Tsukasa Hojo

Next month, anime’s greatest thieves will cross paths in Lupin the Third vs. Cat’s Eye, scheduled to release on Amazon Prime. Before then, though, we get two treats!

First, a special premiere event will be held on January 24, 2023 at the Tokyo TOHO Cinemas Roppongi. In addition to the screening, there will be appearances by Kanichi Kurita (the voice of Lupin), Keiko Toda (the voice of Hitomi Kisugi), and directors Kobun Shizuno and Hiroyuki Seshita.

Additionally, a new Shukan Bunshun Enta+ special edition will be coming out tomorrow in Japan. “The 80s! Wild about Shonen Manga” will feature front and back cover art by Cat’s Eye creator Tsukasa Hojo, depicting the Kisugi sisters cozying up to the Lupin gang. A saddle-stitched appendix poster will sport all three images: Lupin getting cozy with Fujiko and Hitomi, Ai chatting cheerfully with Goemon and Rui posing back-to-back with Jigen. The special issue will also include a four-page interview with Hojo, as well as an introduction to the new anime.

Hojo said Jigen was the easiest to draw in his style, but Lupin ended up looking “a little like a villain.” He also added with a laugh, “When you publish the art, it would be misleading if I didn’t say this has nothing to do with the content of the work. There are no scenes like this in the anime.”

Lupin the Third vs. Cat’s Eye celebrates the 50th and 40th anniversaries of the two anime series, respectively, and will debut worldwide on Amazon Prime on January 27, 2023.
